Working together toward a better breed.
The Jack Russell Terrier Research Foundation
"Working for Future Generations"
If you would like to help protect the future of the Jack Russell Terrier, please participate in the JRTRF DNA Bank. It is easier now than ever before. It is up to terrier owners and breeders to do everything they can to help eliminate genetic faults. You can help by submitting individuals, families and litters of Jack Russells. This is extremely helpful because each dog may have a different genetic configuration that when compared may help point to the gene that causes the disease. Researchers will require many samples to help find the genetic marker.
*Remember to submit new dogs and puppies to the study.
*Once you have submitted your terrier you should contact Stephanie Taylor (brandywinejrt@roadrunner.com) of any changes in your terrier's health, i.e. did not pass CERF report or diagnosis of a genetic disease.
Donating is easy. If you are planning a routine visit to your vet, simply print the following forms. (click on the high-lighted section to print the forms)
For individual terriers, print forms 1, 2 & 3.
For a litter, print 1, 2, 3 & 4.
3. Individual Genetic Data Form, fill out 2 of these forms. One accompanies the blood and mail a copy to Stephanie Taylor. (Individual Terrier Form)
4. Litter Form - If you have a litter, please fill out a Litter Form and a Genetic Data Form, mail a copy with the blood and another copy to Stephanie Taylor. (litter Forms)
Or, if you prefer, request a DNA Kit, (Cheryl Costello's email) The above forms and mailing information will be included in the kit.
Puppy Tail Dockings:
a) Package tails individually in plastic freezer bags. Make sure each bag is properly marked, identifying each tail.
b) Store tails in the freezer section while waiting shipment. Tails can be kept frozen indefinitely, or until you have several litters ready for shipment.
c) If you are storing or shipping several litters, place individual bags of the same litter, in one large freezer bag, identifying the litter.
d) Fill out the Litter Form and a Genetic Data Form to accompany the tails when donated.
